about

I remember the first time I started playing this idea for Brian (drummer) and he was understandably irritated that I was pushing a song where the verse was in 7/4 (most of "Devil.." is also in 7/4). Credit to him, though. He stuck with it and eventually nailed it, with a very cool beat. Now I can't hear the song any other way.

The end of this song, the part with "I almost lost tomorrow, I almost lost today" is kindof 'important' to me. It is obviously the source of the album title. I wrote that riff - and the "chorus" riff earlier in the song (the high pitched "Yeah" and "No") way back in 1993. The 7/4 part was written in 2007 for this album, and I just added the old stuff to it to make a complete song.

btw, David and James made fun of me for wanting to fade out almost 1.5 minutes of this track gradually, but I'm glad we did. It makes sense. The inspiration for that long gradual fade, btw, comes from 70s rock, specifically Judas Priest's "Last Rose of Summer".

lyrics

Mirage

I want to match your style
I want to stay for a while
I want to hear your smile
so dearly

I want to fall to your spell
I want to sleep in your cell
I want to dance into hell
so sweetly

Yeah

I cannot match your style
I cannot stay for a while
I cannot hear your smile
so clearly

I cannot fall to your spell
I cannot sleep in your cell
I cannot dance into hell
so neatly

No

I almost lost tomorrow
I almost lost today
